This week I have heard coughing from every corner of my office. ‘Tis the season for sniffles, sore throats and congestion.
So why am I bringing this up?
Well, I tried a little experiment. I brought in some peppermint essential oil to the office and had some of my co-workers inhale the oil from an open dish. While it didn’t completely cure the cough, it worked similarly to menthol and helped to clear some airways. It works great if you rub a few drops on your chest or under your nose, but be careful, if you use too much it might burn a little. Another plus was that the whole smelled wonderfully!
Peppermint oil can also be used to help headaches. A few dabs on the wrist or temples really helps to relieve that ache.
To prevent getting sick, tea tree oil is a great as an antiseptic/antiviral/anti fungal oil. I have been using my tea tree soap all week, and so far I’m cold free! Also, I use a mouthwash based with tea tree oil, which doesn’t burn and leaves me feeling minty fresh!
