I’ve been seeing a lot of debate about stay-at-home-moms lately and I’ve realized a few things. The most important of those is that:
Being a stay-at-home mom is the worst thing you can do for your child if it is not what God has called you to do .
Now, I’ll preface this post by saying that I am a stay-at-home mom (SAHM). I believe that I’m blessed to be at home and that this is the position that God has asked me to occupy at this time in my life. It may change someday, but I’m content to go where God leads me.
That’s why I believe that sometimes God leads women outside of the home. He knows our unique abilities, attributes, and most of all He knows the plans He has for each one of us. By staying at home when God calls you elsewhere may be doing a disservice to your family.
Being a SAHM is not for everyone. It’s not possible for some and it isn’t desirable for others.
It’s not better than or less than being a working mom. Being a SAHM isn’t easier than being a working mom, but it isn’t harder either.
The fact is: whether you are a working mom, a mom who stays at home, or even a mom who works at home, we all have troubles, triumphs, and days when we just don’t think we’ll make it through.
As women, we enter motherhood in many different ways. Some planned, some unplanned. Some as young women and some later in life. Some married, some unmarried. No matter how we become mothers, God has a plan for our lives and for the lives of our children. He doesn’t love or approve of one person more than another.
If God can accept us as we are, then we need to do the same.
Now it’s time. It’s time that we stop comparing ourselves to each other.
It’s time that we stop beating up women for their choice to work or not work.
It’s time we stop the “mom wars” because we think that we know what is best for someone else.
It’s time we stop focusing on ourselves and start focusing on the people God calls us to be.
Only one thing is certain, when God calls us to motherhood, we follow that call. It may look different for each one of us, but the important thing is that we are bending our hearts to His call.
