So LILLEbaby JUST released their newest carrier – the Essentials!
Being a LILLEbaby ambassador, I was super lucky to get to test drive one of these babies. It’s definitely different than any other LILLEbaby carrier that I’ve used before: and in a GOOD way!
Plus, the price on these babies is awesome!! Just $90 for a super quality, durable, and beautiful carrier that really works.
In this post, I’ll be comparing the Essentials with two other carriers: the LILLEbaby Embossed and the Evenflo Natural Fit. This comparison will give you a good idea of how the Essentials stacks up against the competition.

Let’s start off with a quick comparison chart:
Number of Positions: 3 (forward facing in, hip, and back)
Weight Limits: 7-45 lbs
Materials: Polyester and Polyurethane
Price: $23.50 (Find it on Amazon here)
Fit: Maybe I’m just spoiled or maybe not, but this carrier had a terrible fit! As you can see from the pictures, the material pulled inward and created gaps and pulls between Baby V and I. In addition to that, the straps were really difficult to adjust once baby was strapped in so I had to keep taking him in and out.
Style: I like the color and feel of the carrier. I’m always a fan of neutrals because you can wear them with so many things. I don’t like how it made us look like a big marshmallow though.
Overall: You get what you pay for, and nothing more. Save your $30. This carrier felt super flimsy and the waist band is made of the same material as the overall carrier. A few times I thought Baby V might slip out of the bottom and it was very difficult to get a good seat.
Number of Positions: 4 (forward facing in, hip, and back AND infant with the infant insert)
Weight Limits: 7*-45 lbs (with infant insert sold separately)
Materials: 100% cotton (canvas like feel)
Price: $90 (Get it here)
Fit: This carrier earns bonus points for fit. It’s super comfortable and it quickly became one of our favorite carriers for walks, errands and around the house. It works well with Baby V who is an average sized 19 month old (33″, 25.5 lbs)
Something that sets this carrier apart from the others is the 3 way adjustable straps. They come with PFA‘s (perfect fit adjusters), which are basically an extra adjustable area on the front of the carrier under the wearer’s breastbone (on each side) They work wonders for those who are petite and struggle getting a good fit and for those who switch carriers between partners who may need individual adjustment.
One extra bonus of this carrier: padded leg support! I’m not sure if this is actually a “thing” but I noticed that my little guy had less impression marks on his legs and saw that there is some extra padding in the grey area of the carrier (see the picture above for details)
Features: Low price point, large pocket, dual adjusting buckles, attached mesh hood, awesome print
Style: I’ve been waiting and waiting for a Chevron carrier and it’s finally here! I could not love this print anymore than I already do. Plus, as I already stated, I love neutral colors. The grey/white combo is just perfect and matches really anything.
The buckles and straps are a little different than the other LILLEbaby carriers that I own, but nothing too crazy. I did think that they seemed a little easier to adjust (which can be a good thing), but I needed to remember to secure everything properly.
Also, the hood is made of mesh (much more breathable for breastfeeding and hot days) and is quite different than the hood on the LILLEbaby Complete models. It takes a little getting used to, but honestly it’s rare that we use the hood these days. I like that it is super compact and fits nicely in the LARGE pocket attached to the carrier.
Oh yeah, and the large pocket… it’s pretty awesome.
Overall: A super versatile carrier, especially for the price! While it doesn’t have all the features of the LILLEbaby Complete models, it does have the most important features a carrier needs: good fit, great style, and a reasonable price.
Number of Positions: 6
Weight Limits: 7-45 lbs (infant insert built in)
Materials: Microfiber and Micro suede
Price: $170 (get it here)
Fit: This is one of the most adjustable carriers I’ve ever owned. With six positions, the options are amazing. The straps are easy to adjust and pull nice and smoothly to get the perfect adjustment.
What makes this carrier different than the others is the fold up neck support that can be used for infants and later with toddlers for extra back support. It especially comes in handy when your child loves to arch his back to try to get out of a back carry!!
Features: Beautiful fabric options, forward facing/narrow base, infant insert built in (neck support), dual adjusting straps, detachable hood
Style: I consider this carrier my luxury carrier. It’s so gorgeous and so comfortable. The padded shoulders and waistband make this carrier extra comfortable and the micro suede interior wicks away moisture (awesome when you have a sweaty child!).
Overall: I’ve always been in love with my Navy Embossed. (Check out my comparison between the Navy Embossed and the Stone All Seasons here). However, I also know that this carrier does not fit in everyone’s budget. After all, it’s almost twice as much as the Essentials.
I’m a huge fan of the detachable hood, the large pocket (with zipper) and the super smooth fabric.
What carrier do I recommend:
Honestly, it’s all about YOU! What are you looking for? What do you need? What is your budget?
