If you don’t already know it by now, I LOVE BABYWEARING!
Living in rural western Pennsylvania, where the babywearing population is few, everyone always stops and st
ares when they see us in our all seasons or navy embossed LILLEbaby. I’ve gotten everything from, “how cute!” to “he’ll never learn to walk.” Normally I let the comments roll of me because I know how much babywearing has saved me over the last three years.
I mainly choose SSC (soft structured carriers), but I’ve used a few wraps and slings along the way. However, I recently received something that was SURE to get some looks – the brightly colored Citrus LILLEbaby SeatMe.
Now it may look a little strange to you, but let me tell you why this carrier is now in my permanent babywearing rotation!
Note: this carrier was given to me for the purposes of my honest review, which you will find in this post. This post also contains affiliate links.
So what makes this carrier different than most of LILLEbaby’s line?
I mean, it only makes sense considering the name. But this carrier is so much more than the seat. It’s soft, supportive, and easily customized. Here are some quick features of the SeatMe
- 4 positions (Front facing in, front facing out, back, and hip)
- Two-way straps (enables crossing the straps for a great fit!)
- Two large zippered pockets
- Easily adjustable seat fabric with sliding zipper adjusters
- Removable seat
- Sturdy (and wide!) velcro belt plus buckle for extra protection
- Super soft microfiber fabric
- Lillebaby’s ergonomic design that evenly distributes weight between hips and back
I really could go on and on, however I’m sure you are really more interested in seeing how this carrier works!
Well for starters – you can wear this carrier as just a seat! Who hasn’t done the “baby on the hip” saunter? You know the one I’m talking about – where you thrust out your hips so baby is supported. The one that leaves you with an aching back… Anyone else have Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman” come to mind?
Anyway – the SeatMe’s hip seat provides the perfect solution. Baby is supported, mom is supported, everyone is happy! This has especially come in handy when we are outside playing in the yard. Our oldest is 3 and our youngest is 11 months. This means that the little one sometimes wants to be a part of things but sometimes wants to be picked up. So I spend quite a bit of time with him on the hip seat. It saves me from taking him in and out of the carrier a million times!
While I do love the hip seat, the SeatMe also makes a fantastic SSC. I find that I love forward facing out the most in the SeatMe. It gives me peace of mind that baby is in a safe, seated position. Plus, it makes finding a good seat a breeze!
Forward facing out allows my little guy to be part of the action! He enjoys getting to see all the things his big brother can, especially in places like the zoo, children’s museum, and on walks. However, if he becomes sleepy or overstimulated, I love the flexibility to turn him facing in for a nap or some snuggles.
But there’s more to the flexibility of the SeatMe. The seat is REMOVABLE! You heard me correctly. The seat actually comes out, leaving a giant zippered pocket behind. It’s like fanny pack heaven! I can fit a diaper, some snacks, my phone/keys, plus a few other things in that pocket. It’s amazing!
Also- if you are on the fence about buying this carrier because you aren’t sure you’ll always love having the seat in, voila! It is the best of both worlds.
Since this is a completely new design and excitingly new carrier, I highly recommend trying one on. As you can see from my pictures, I am a curvy gal (I’m also short at a mere 5’1). I wear a size 14/16 and the waistband of this carrier was snug of me. It fit a little differently than my other LILLEbaby carriers, but I was still able to get a comfortable, correct fit. If you are close to my size, I’d encourage you to go try this carrier on before buying. However, if you are smaller, I think this carrier would give you an incredibly secure fit!
